Bed and Breakfast Life

Welcome to the Firefly

We can’t tell you how many times we’ve heard people say “I wish I could experience the Bed and Breakfast Life and run a beautiful B&B like this” well, it is actually pretty cool. We’d love to share it with you.

The Firefly was started a few years ago, and by now we’ve been the home of action heroes, healers, and a big variety of very interesting characters.

If some of them have a particularly interesting story, we like to capture it

We’re the authors of several books about the topic. Here is a link to our bookshelf.

The Art of Bed and Breakfast

Envision yourself waking up to the smell of delightful pancakes or sausages, cooking in our big southern kitchen. We have custom-roast coffee from someone we know, and get our eggs from a supply chain of about 150 feet.

We’re always learning, and we are very interested in lovely food, nice company, and starting the day in an interesting way.

Hey, we actually have a Youtube Channel:

The Bed and Breakfast Experience

We’re always looking for ways to learn, and upgrade. We do “Bed and Breakfast” scouting missions all the time to try to find ways to make our guests happier. As we’ve grown we’ve adopted some of the ideas we’ve gathered, and tried some of them at the Firefly.

The swing beds? The knee wall in the Treehouse room? The little poetry that you’re sticking to the Smeg? All of these are ideas we’ve borrowed.

And, we have lovely decor, interesting pieces of art, and interesting things all around to add to the Bed and Breakfast lifestyle.

The Firefly Transformation

This place was a rather shabby old farmhouse, build in 1940, and over a period of time, with a lot of determination (and money) we have turned it into “unmanicured abundance”. We have dozens of “Do-It-Yourself” experiences with tools and materials, and we’ve been around long enough to be able to tell you how we came out.

It’s not a completed project yet, and whenever we have something interesting to share with you, we love to. Learn about our experiences, tools, materials, and our learning process

Art Class Information

It’s a bonding experience to get a group of friends together, and do a little artwork, in someplace pleasant and non-threatening. You don’t need any experience to try it.

Art classes are starting in January. Classes are $45 for two hours, minimum 4 participants for classes. Workshops: 1 afternoon (4 hours) $80 per person.

The instructor is a former SCAD instructor, commercial artist, mural painter, and very popular art instructor at local venues.

Art and Portraits

The Firefly is art-infused. Along with being one of the sites of the Olmsted Plein Air Invitational, we’ve hosted many classes and workshops, and can work on some custom artwork for your home. Here’s a one-minute art show of some of our work, which features kids and ugly dogs:

Bike Trek

This area is perfect for bikers, and near the route of the BRAG spring tune up. Here’s a video of the bike trip from the Firefly into downtown Madison, which is one of the prettiest rides you can imagine. Break out the spandex and chamois butter.
