We’re talking today about the Vampire Diaries Filming Locations. We’re sort of in the middle of several of the important sites, which is good news for people of a certain age who are fans of this show.
They have a website.
Back Story
As part of what we call “Backroad Travel“, we’ve made our business to find the unusual sites around the area. We want to put people onto a nice day trip if we can. This is because we also find it important to know all of the local restaurants, hot spots, former hot spots, and other locations of interest.
Have we told you lately that the Firefly, Bed and Breakfast near Atlanta, is a perfect spot for exploring?
The Vampire Diaries
We’ve asked AI to fill us in on this TV show from the 2000’s, because we need to.
Hello! Yes, I’m familiar with “The Vampire Diaries.” It’s a popular supernatural drama television series that aired from 2009 to 2017. The show is based on the book series of the same name by L.J. Smith and follows the lives of several characters, including vampires, werewolves, and witches, in the fictional town of Mystic Falls, Virginia. The series centers around the love triangle between the main character, Elena Gilbert, and the vampire brothers Stefan and Damon Salvatore. It has gained a significant fan base and has spawned spin-offs like “The Originals” and “Legacies.” Is there anything specific you would like to know about the show?
The Thematic Significance of Vampires
We’ll leave it to Jordan Peterson to tell us about why this is important:
The Significance of the Vampire Diaries High School
Mystic Falls High School, located in the small town of Mystic Falls, became more than just an educational institution in “The Vampire Diaries.” It became a hub where the destinies of the characters intertwined, secrets were unearthed, and pivotal events unfolded. The high school setting added depth and complexity to the storylines, creating an atmosphere of teenage drama, romance, and supernatural intrigue.
First and foremost, the high school served as the backdrop for the protagonists’ daily lives. Elena Gilbert, the show’s central character, attended Mystic Falls High, along with her friends and love interests. It provided a relatable context for their struggles, friendships, and rivalries. The typical high school experiences of parties, football games, and proms were juxtaposed with the supernatural elements that permeated the show.
The Vampire Diaries Mythology
Moreover, Mystic Falls High School had a rich history, which connected to the show’s mythology. The school was built on the remains of an ancient burial ground, making it a focal point of supernatural energy. This location played a crucial role in the unfolding of the town’s dark secrets, including the existence of vampires, werewolves, and witches. The school’s significance deepened as it became a battleground between different factions, each vying for control and power.
The high school also acted as a refuge for the characters, a place where they could temporarily escape the dangers lurking in the town. It provided a sense of normalcy amidst the chaos, a sanctuary where they could navigate the complexities of their relationships and personal growth. Many key conversations and emotional moments occurred within its walls, adding depth to character development.
Additionally, the school’s social dynamics mirrored the power struggles in the supernatural world. The characters’ human lives intertwined with their supernatural identities, leading to tension, conflicts, and alliances. Friendships and rivalries were formed within the student body, often reflecting larger supernatural conflicts. This interplay between the normal and the extraordinary created an intriguing dichotomy, highlighting the characters’ dual natures.
In conclusion, Mystic Falls High School was a significant element of “The Vampire Diaries” plot, providing a relatable and relatable backdrop for the characters’ lives, serving as a catalyst for key events and revelations, and adding layers of depth and tension to the overall narrative. It represented both a safe haven and a hotbed of supernatural activity, intertwining the ordinary and the extraordinary in a captivating manner.
The Mystic Falls High School Filming Location
It’s in Monroe. We were up there not too long ago. It’s the former Monroe Area High School which was erected in the early 70’s. It’s now the Athens Technical Institute.
It starts at about 16:37 in this video.
The day we went there it was cold, but not dark.
Here’s a video:
So what to make of all of this?
Between AI and Jordan Peterson, would we put a guest onto this scene?
Well, we thought the old high school is a little rough, but for a fan of the show, this place would be priceless.
Would we entertain a Vampire Diaries Binge Watch party? Of course. There must be some sort of upcoming anniversary for these poor kids, who apparently took 8 years to make it through high school. Also despite disruptions, explosions, breaking and entering and a lot of other mayhem, no one ever gets called into the office.
Here is the story. Any story that has gone on for that length of time, exploring the issues of vampirism and teen angst, with a healthy dose of school vandalism can’t be all bad.
We are always up for a little exploration, and there are some nice spots to visit in Monroe. We would put a guest onto this place, if they were interested in exploration.
By the way, we did an article earlier about the filming locations in Covington, didn’t we?
