The Mystery of the Conyers Apparitions took place between 1990 and 1998. This was a series of visions and/or appearances of the Virgin Mary suspended over an open field near Conyers. These events are believed to have taken place about 33 miles away from The Firefly, not too far from downtown Conyers, which we talked about the other day (Link).
Why This Matters
At the Firefly, Bed and Breakfast near Atlanta GA, we like to know about the history of the area. This not only includes civil war generals and movie sets but may include other oddities and points of interest.
Since we have a little spare time, here is the story surrounding the Mystery. The reader can make up his or her mind as to whether the events were “real” or not.
Other Information
We have two additional articles on this topic, because of its importance to the readers.
The Conyers Apparitions
The Conyers Apparitions took place at this place on Highway 138 near Conyers GA.

Nancy Fowler, a local resident reported seeing an apparition of the Virgin Mary hovering above a pasture near her home.
This reportedly started to happen in the 80’s but first was reported in 1990. At that point, pilgrims started to go to the pasture on October 13th of every year, in the hopes of a repeat event. Also, some of the attendees reported various unusual events, and healings taking place.
Nancy Fowler and the Conyers Apparitions
According to This Article (Link) Nancy Fowler, a home maker, was “called” to this pasture in Conyers. There, she had a variety of other visions and received “messages.” These visions occurred from the mid-80’s and she reported this to the public somehow in 1990. She had fabricated a monument, and this started to attract a crowd. The “apparition” was said to appear monthly until 1994, and then finally annually on October 13th.
By “crowd” we mean that the last reported event had well over 100,000 people attend. This was a major event in the local area. This also caused a lot of problems from a traffic and public sanitation standpoint. This was because pilgrims literally came from all over the country in the hopes of seeing the apparition.
The Mystery of the Conyers Apparitions: Messages
According to Nancy Fowler, and her assistant “George” who also saw some of the initial visions, the apparition gave some important messages. Also, there is a recording of testimonials from various people who have seen visions or experienced unusual events.
Some of these events continued to happen long after the public visions stopped. Nancy Fowler still operates a website and blog. and there are several hundred messages recorded from this place.
There are still occasionally reports of strange flashes of light, and other unexplained phenomena happening at this place.

Apparently, some of the content from these messages has found their way into the conspiracy and paranormal community, according to this website.
Some of these messages are thought to have been predictions of future events. You may wish to draw whatever conclusions you want from this.
We try to not spread stuff from the lunatic fringe, but in this particular case, since it happened close to us, it seems like we should.
Equal and Opposite Reactions
Maybe that is summarized in this article:
http://www.catholicplanet.com/apparitions/false53.htm
As in the case of a lot of unusual events, there are equal and opposite theories that the whole thing was a scam. When confronted with events that people can’t explain, the first reaction is often to discredit them.,
The “Miracle of the Sun” is an apparently similar story of this, and also took place on October 13, near Fatima, in Portugal. This event was widely regarded as a “miracle”, and two of the three girls were canonized as Saints in 2017.

So what to make of the Mystery of the Conyers Apparitions?
Well, far be it from us to question any of this, or necessarily believe it. What we do know is that strange things occasionally happen in this area. We have thought for awhile that the Firefly has a strange attracting effect toward healers and those who need to be healed.
Things happen that you just can’t explain.
The Mystery of the Conyers Apparitions is interesting enough and local enough that the viewers of this blog would be interested in the story.
If you are interested enough to come and visit, we can facilitate that as well.
Be there in the square, even if you can’t explain it.
